What Ever Happen to Preventative Care? Tommy Douglas Would Not Approve

When Premier Tommy Douglas first proposed the idea of a public healthcare system in Saskatchewan he focused on universality and the importance of preventative care. He recognized the importance of focusing on preventive measures to improve the overall health of the population and reduce the burden of illness on the healthcare system. Douglas believed that investing in prevention could lead to better health outcomes and cost savings in the long run.

Douglas also wanted our healthcare system to be portable, accessible and for governments to be held accountable for overseeing and managing the healthcare system to ensure its efficiency and effectiveness. Premier Douglas would be very unhappy if he were here today to see what a mess we have made of his original plan.
